kcrg tv nine's dave franzman is live at the fire scene. dave, what's the latest? beth, the fire is still smoldering but firefighters left the scene earlier today. they monitored the air quality and didn't find anything alarming, so the earlier advice to minimize exposure to outside air has expired, and theri as the smoke billowed and crews rushed to contain the flames, several residents of a nearby retirement home watched what was happening right across the street. one he heard it before he saw it. "i was sitting in the chair watching tu and it just exploded looked out and it was just

smoke is also the same thing another early morning witness noticed as he was driving down highway 13. " i seen the flames coming out the side door so then i whipped around to go to the grocery store to tell somebody so brian, the store owner, is a firefighter and he was running out the door " fire crews stopped using water for a time for fear of spreading the flammable material around more. but the fire continued to spread until an aerial a foam to smother the flames. one nearby trucking business had semi trailers and even grain trucks parked no more than 50 feet away from the buildings that went up in flames. an employee saw the flames... and drove all the vehicles to safety. "we moved our tanker trailer that sits down there... went and hooked that up... and it was getting a bit warm. but we got it out of there." the owner later discovered just how

partially melted from the heat. as for the firefighter who had the reported medical issue, that report did not indicate whether there was a connection to the fire. we do not have any other updates to report on that firefighter. live in central city, dave franzman, kcrg t-v nine news. u-i-h-c after a truck hit him while he crossed the street. that's according to our coverage partners k-d- t-h. dubuque police say jeremy maus of new hampshire had the right of way when he crossed the road at 17th and white streets in dubuque on tuesday night. his condition is not known. police cited the driver, uriah ostrand, who is 22 and from dubuque. the citation is for failure to yield to a pedestrian in a

"not everyone has the blessing of a house and parents and food to eat on thanksgiving." on the effort was self evident-- but behind the bags of food a deeper significance. just as the pilgrims and indians set aside differences for thanksgiving long ago, so too have these kids. though they belong to different faiths, they showed togetherness at a time when the country could use a little more, post election. have to divide us."nat though it was turkey in those lunches... unity was truly the main course. in cedar rapids, forrest saunders, kcrg-tv9 news. two eastern iowa marching bands had the honor of performing in a major parade today. struttin' up the road here is the mount vernon high school marching mustangs. 65 members under the direction of scott weber. music plays mount vernon's band was in chicago's mcdonald's thanksgiving parade. the band made its way through a mile long route through downtown. this is their third time in this parade. also there performing this morning... 68 members of the williamsburg high school marching band. they found out they were playing last year. that's because each parade takes more than a year and a half of planning. this is their first appearance. after the day of feasting, many

their black friday shopping early. "we have a whole store of awesome. we have literally hundreds of items on sale stores like toys r us and j-c penney are already open. macy's is offering deals only in store. but other stores like barnes and noble and costco are staying closed today to give employees the day off. by the end of the weekend, more than 137 million americans are expected to have done some shopping. lindale mall in cedar rapids just opened its doors for shoppers leading up to black friday. and that's where we find kcrg-tv9's samantha myers. lindale mall will offer 22 hours of savings during thanksgiving and black friday, giving early bird shoppers a head start to gobble-up the best deals of the 2016 holiday season. visitors from near and far will cash in on unmatched
